From the team behind Fallow, FOWL opened near Piccadilly Circus in October 2023 with a single minded focus: chicken, treated with the beak to feet seriousness usually reserved for whole animal butchery restaurants. Chef owners Jack Croft and Will Murray built the menu around rotisserie, schnitzel, burgers and wings, with monthly guest collaborations keeping things moving beyond the core list.

The fried chicken is the dish that gets singled out most often, with a coating that stays properly crisp and a juiciness that a lot of competitors struggle to match at this price point. The rotisserie chicken, cooked simply and carved at the table in some sittings, is worth ordering if you want to taste the bird on its own terms rather than battered or sauced. Even dessert gets pulled into the theme, with a chicken fat tarte Tatin that sounds like a gimmick but has genuine fans among reviewers.

The room sits a short walk from Covent Garden and Leicester Square, making it a sensible pre or post theatre option, casual enough not to need a special occasion but polished enough that it doesn’t feel like a fast food stop. It has picked up a Michelin selection nod, a step below a star but a real signal of quality for a restaurant built around a single ingredient.

Mains run roughly £18 to £28, and a full meal with a starter, main and a drink comes to around £40 to £50 a head, reasonable for the location and the quality on the plate. It suits chicken enthusiasts specifically, theatre-goers looking for something more interesting than a chain restaurant nearby, and groups who want to share across several dishes rather than order individually.

The honest caveat, raised in several reviews, is portion size and value consistency: some dishes feel generous while others, particularly smaller starters, can seem thin for the price given the restaurant’s premium positioning.
